Cable Analysis

Updated August 14, 2020

This article applies to:

  • RoadEng Forestry

To understand the Cable Analysis Function Group you have to be well versed in Terrain Module components such as: displaying draped profiles, importing traverses from Survey/Map, and digitizing features.

The Cable Analysis function group calculates the behaviour of cable-yarding systems. You provide a ground profile, logging setup (cable configuration, working tensions, and weight as well as carriage weight) and a calculation type. You can then display graphic or tabular results including tensions, load capabilities and ground clearance.

Calculations that require modelling (all except the simple third point method) assume a quasi-static load with no ground interference (flying load).

The examples in this section require the Mapping and Drafting, Import Basic, Import Extended, Profile Window, Multi-Plot Output Sheet Generation and Cable Analysis function groups enabled. See Function Groups for more information. D-Lines is part of Terrain Tools – Forestry and RoadEng Forest Engineer packages only.

This example is in metric units. To correctly follow the examples ensure Metric Units are enabled. Select Module | Setup before starting.
